Lets talk skin. Without properly prepping your face, your makeup can be left looking uneven with a high chance of your makeup looking...cakey! So below, I'm going to share with you some quick & easy steps to take prior to your makeup application. because we all know that beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin and a good, consistent skin regimen can be your answer.
1. Remove all traces of makeup & Cleanse your face. Start by removing any makeup with micellar water. Micellar water gently cleanses and removes the excess dirt and leftover makeup on the skin more so than a wipe, which can also be harsh or irritating to the skin. I recommend Simple or Garnier Micellar water--works like a magnet to makeup. Following the micellar water, I ike to use the Drunk Elephant Jelly cleanser. It doesn't leave my skin feeling dry and the best part is that it's a clean beauty product! (yay for no harsh chemicals, fragrances and parabens!)
2. Exfoliate. This is my favorite part--getting rid of those dead skin cells lingering on the surface of your skin! You can use a gentle daily exfoliant for this step if you have sensitive skin. I like Dermalogica Microfoliant, Kate Sommerville ExfoliKate, or Yes to tomatoes daily pore scrub. All of which help buff away those unwanted dead skin cells. After saying adios to your dead skin, your face will appear much brighter and feel smoother--ready for a perfect makeup application! Adding this into your routine makes a world of a difference to the texture of your skin. Especially in the winter months when most of us suffer from drier, patchier skin. (I recommend exfoliating 1-2x per week).
3. Tone & Moisturize. Apply a toner to maintain the pH balance of the skin. I love using Kopari Beauty Coconut Rose Toner or one of Thayer's Alcohol free toners. Right after your toner, I recommend applying a serum and a moisturizer such as: Keihl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer or Belif The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb. Moisturized and hydrated skin is essential for a flawless makeup application.
Now, its not an overnight fix to your dry skin woes, but with a consistent skin care regimen, it will greatly improve! Just remember, great makeup starts with great skin!
